Degustation

Yesterday was the first time I had a degustation when my uncle took me for dinner at the Balzac. For jakuns:

Degustation: Tasting; the appreciation of sapid qualities by the taste
organs.

Even more jakun-er: Sapid - full of flavour.

Ok ok, even I didnt know what those words meant, Ive just heard of it, i though it meant buffet, but come to think of it, both those words are French in origin so why would they mean the same thing? Basicly its many many courses of small servings on extra large plates.

So first dish is called a Canapé (im lazy to look it up, but I think it means tasty tiny morsels of food meant to start up your taste buds). I think it was a chicken breast grilled with bread crumbs with 5 others herbs i cant remember. Tasty! About the size of half a standard nugget. (Note, these normally come the a glass of wine for each course to complement the dish, but I chose to skip it for the night, I can imagine I would be pretty sloshes after like 5-6 glasses).

Next was the soup, or Amuse Bouche. It tasted like a cream of mushroom osup but very rich, topped with lentils and fennel.Not to mention the cute teacup the size of ...well...a ping pong ball? oh so intricate...oh so intricate.

Third dish was pretty awesome, Seared Spiced Big Eye Tuna with Sauteed Squid, Lime, Avocado and Sesame Seeds. The squid was so intricately carved, for the extra delicate look.

Two more dishes before the main, came the Silver Dory with a Ragout of Celery Leaf Gnocchi, Avruga and Creme Fraiche. I learned what gnocchi is, its like some flour cake, haha. The rest, not so much. Lucky Ive seen enough movies to know to start from the cutlery on the outside. 4 knives, 5 forks baby!Talk about washing.

Woah this post is getting pretty long, but I know at least Esther will read until here. Tortellini of Roast Quail and Foie Gras with Baby Leeks. Apparently Foie Gras was banned for a certain time and was jsut let back in to Australia, considering what it is and how its made, yeah I think it would provoke the animal rights activists. But they dont do good things to gooses, basicly. Its very salty and the dish looked like a dumpling,haha, my uncle wanted to exclaim, "Is that a wonton?"

Finally the main: Stockyard Wagyu Rump Cap with White Asparagus, Confit Potato and Truffle Jus. I think this is the first time Ive had truffles, y'know the really crazy expensive mushrooms that have their own class. It's like thousands of dollars per pound or something. The dish was awesome, a bit on the rare side but I'm not complaining. Definitely a well worth waiting for main.

Haha, I like this part, the PRE-desert! Eton Mess - was made up of strawberries and cream, merange and some other little thingies that was delightful and just made you smile.

Finally desert was a Chocolate ' Louis XV' Delice.. Im not sure what is is, something between chocolate cake but not quite cake texture, more of a nougat bar base but not hard. They even painted the plate with chocolate, like with brush strokes and fading intensity and shit. You could of course lick it off when no one was looking.

FInished off with some camomile tea, twas a good 2.5 hrs spent...tasting.

More thoughts

A friend was having a heart to heart talk with me. He is getting over a massive addiction and he said this to me.

" I always thought something would just turn up y'know, but besides meeting you guys these last few years were kinda...".

Ive always been like this somewhat, never expanding on my ideas, always chasing but never pursuing. Jack of all trades, master of none. Hard truths but I dont swallow, always escaping. Guilty.

Lets try harder,... after a good nights rest. Lol.right.

Edit: Damn Serena (C), in gossip girl ep7 looks damn fine in those jeans! kill me now.

Headlines

Now the Spice Girls are pretty awesome. Biggest girl band in history.ever.
My favourite was ginger spice, second was baby. I had 2 of their cassettes and even a VCD with all the singles from the first album. Now that I think about it, couple of posters on my wall to boot!

The new single entitled headlines leaves me a bit disappointed as a comeback single. The song is about a 5/10 and you wont see me pushing playback too many times. The music video could have been amped a bit with pairing up the girls a bit more to get that lesbionic feeling we see with Geri and Posh (similar to the 2 become 1 video with geri and baby). We can also see Geri's abs are in magnificent shape! Not bad for a comeback after almost 10 years, Im just waiting for some better tunes to roll out. Girl pwr!

Was walking home listening to my mp3's. Walked by some school girls and one of them dances next to me with her headphones on.

Thoughts

Last nite I slept at 11pm, damn tired as I was at uni from 10:30am to 7:30pm. My body clock decides to wake me up at 7am.Thats cool 8 hrs ya? I laze around indulgently for another 30 or so minutes and decide to saunter to the computer. So early what to do? Well I cant stand wen the house is dirty so i cleaned the sink and do dem dishes. After that, I take a nice snooze at about 10:30. I had some pretty good lunchtime dreams. I could hear the phone ring, but I dont care, I was suppose to return a calculator, but I can do that tomolo. I finally wake up at about 1 in the afternoon. Surprisingly I'm feeling great, not great as in lets be productive. But like after a great back massage comfortable 'great'. I don't know, the feeling is so different compared to the refreshed 'enuff rest sleep', or the tired 'oversleep'. Btw, my record is still 19 hours, still cant beat you Mrs. Lee (24 hrs zomg!!!!). That girl can really tidur mati.

Another thing, why is everyone born in October?! Every week kena 50 bucks+! im declining half the invites too! this week gonna kena twice! I should be happy Im gonna have fun, but deep down inside, im hurting...hurting in the worse possible place...Happy fricken birthday!

Oh, my 2v2 rating for arena reached 1609 today! go go
