Short story challenge

June 22, 2009

So here's a thought, lets flex our creative minds a tad. So we often complain we dont have time to do things, have no inspiration, we're tired, ....(insert list here).

So let me slap this metal gauntlet across your face twice for good measure. Lets see some of the best short stories you can come up with. Before we go, ugh, that sucks...aha, behold its not just any short story challenge, its one of the hardest and easiest at the same time. Contradictory? Maybe, oxymoron? Certainly.

Behold.....the less than 55 word short story challenge. Obviously you should pick a theme or 2 or three. Whatever u want. Ill give an example, (I read it and it was pretty bad, id give myself -2). Well 3 pts for me.

10 points -1st place
5 points - 2nd place
3 points for participating
1 point per comment (max 1 point for 1- \infty comments)

So we squared each other off.
We both knew it was dumb, but someone had react first, ...did it matter, really?
Predetermined, I would lunge forward, dodge left, fake right, and go with two quick lefts and land a hard one smack in the middle. Man, dont think, just kiss her.

she exhaled. then inhaled. every breath felt controlled. she took out her mobile phone and stared at it. losing control of her fingers, she typed "i love you". send.

2 minute passed. 5. then 10. her phone beeped.

"i love you too. always have."

she exhaled. a tear trickled down her face. it was madness.

It is a moment her heartbeat simply must have been beating in time with his, and it seems that the universe has conspired to bring the both of them together in a single perfect moment which has all the time of eternity and all the fragility of glass.

Then his wife appears.

10 pts to steffi
5 pts to lene
3 pts for meh!

good work all. Although I question Steffi's originality, seems like a familiar story...

Pssh. It's a common enough concept, but the writing is completely my own. Ha, listen to Alanis Morisette's 'Ironic'.
